Chane Saaru is a very simple dish. I got this recipe from my mother. In Konkani, chano means chickpeas. This is a very healthy recipe and can be made within 5-10 minutes. This is a good way to use the left over water (which has nutrients), in which the chickpeas are cooked. try making this simple soup and enjoy.
Ingredients:
- Black Chickpea/ Kala Chana Stock- 4-5 cups
- Asafoetida- A pinch
- Green chillies, slit- 2
- Oil- 2 tsp
- Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
- Dry red chilli- 1-2
- Salt- If required
Procedure:
Preserve the stock of the black chana. ( stock is the left over water in which the kala chana is cooked). start heating the stock and add asafoetida and green chillies. Bring it to a boil and turn off the heat. Add salt, only if required.
For seasoning- Heat oil and then add mustard seeds. Once it starts spluttering add broken red chillies (I used crushed red pepper). You can as well add curry leaves. Turn off the heat. Add this to the stock. Mix well. Chane Saaru is ready!!
Serve it hot with rice or as a soup. Above measurement serves 2-3 people.
What a coincidence. I made Kulitha saaru!
